Feminization of Poverty: The Meaning

                                                  Feminization of Poverty

                                       The Meaning

Before defining feminization of poverty we first need to understand what is poverty. So what is poverty?Poverty is general scarcity or dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.

As mentioned in my previous blog when you talk about the term 'feminization of poverty', you tend to talk about the dis-proportionate percentages of poor women in the world. The 'United Nations Development Fund for women describe it as "the burden of poverty borne by women, especially in developing countries." Now what people fail to understand is that feminization of poverty is a relative term which means that poverty among  women is greater than that among men hence calling women 'poor' does not explain the term 'feminization of poverty'.
